We have made a decision but everyone, including Sarah, has been a little preoccupied with stuff. Yes, you can blame it on this damn virus.

The recipient knows it's them too, and has had to miss out on 15 days of celebration!

A true mom through and through. 😋

Default March Member of the Month

We have all been very preoccupied with the adjustments we have had to make in the wake of Covid-19. We will try to be more timely announcing the new Member of the Month. So far we have had:

January: Buzzcap7
February: HarleyCharlie1992
March: MyFavRK
________________________

Our March Member of the Month is, MyFavRK. Some folks are just naturally upbeat and supportive and that describes MyFavRK. He is quick to share a helpful tip or opinion and always has a positive post in any thread he contributes to.

In high school his friends gave him the nickname "Bear" and it has stuck to this very day. Even his wife calls him Bear. He is living and loving in Canada with access to many awesome rides. He is also very interested in music, guitars, movies, and of course motorcycles, in particular Harley-Davidson. Bear cut his teeth riding dirt bikes as a child and naturally progressed to riding street bikes. He has had several bikes since his early 30's. He started on a 1981 Yamaha 650 Special which lead to a string of Kawasaki's such as a 900 Classic, 1500 Vulcan and a Vulcan Vaquero. But he wanted more. Then a 2010 Road King crossed his path and he was smitten. At this point in his life he believes his beloved Road King will not only be his first Harley and perhaps his last Harley assuming it lasts a lifetime. Hence his forum handle, "MyFavRK". He loves the nostalgic look of the Road King with its laid back style, the view, it is simply his kind of bike. Like so many Bear loves to ride and plans to ride until the day he can't ride any longer.

He was sad to see the Nomad go but really needed a bigger bike so he and his wife could do some serious traveling. The Vaquero was just too big to enjoy so he sold it and bought the Road King, never looking back. In the beginning Bear was a bit unsure about riding big street bikes. However, his boss, an avid rider, kept trying to talk him into giving it a try and get his permit. He finally acquiesced and after a lot of practice and tips from his boss he found it just came natural to him. He fell in love with riding and can't imagine what life would be like without it.
Bear was introduced to an older gentleman who has been riding for most of his life, actually since before Bear was even born. They hit it off right away and started riding together a lot. They have grown very close and the older man is now more like the father or brother Bear never had. A great mentor and confidant. He promised to take Bear on an epic ride and they did just that! They would ride to Jasper, Alberta, where the man grew up. In 2017, just a couple of days after buying the Road King, Bear threw some clothes in a pack, gassed up and off they went. It was his first time riding through the mountains and it was fantastic! Another great memory is riding to Nelson, British Columbia with a couple of friends. They had to take the ferry across Kootenay Bay, head south along the Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park via Hwy 3A to Nelson.

Bear has never been to the United States and would love to plan a ride with his wife. They are currently planning a trip to South Dakota and visit Yellowstone. His wife has a long time dream to see the East Coast of the U.S. so that may soon be in the cards as well.

Over the years necessity has caused him to learn how to work on bikes. There is great satisfaction in working on your own bike and not having to rely on others. It will save you a load of cash at the same time! He finds working on his bike as therapeutic as riding it. This mechanical skill lead him to restoring another bike. An older gentleman he became acquainted with over the years had a 1983 Honda Shadow sitting in the barn and had fallen under ten plus years of neglect. They became friends and the man would fondly talk of his years riding the Shadow, how much he missed and wished to one day ride it again. The man provided the parts and Bear provided the labor and expertise to fully restore the bike to its former glory. The project took over four months to complete but seeing the happiness on that gentleman's face made every moment worth it. There is nothing as rewarding as the result of kindness.

Man does not live by Harley's alone. Really, its true. Bear is a skilled guitar player and has been in several bands. Life has its priorities but Bear still finds time to write songs, play a little and jam with friends. Sometimes he will play at BBQ's or gatherings of friends. Not one to turn down an opportunity to entertain others he is quick with a song or a tune. His wife loves to hear him play, or, perhaps she just loves to see the look of fulfillment as his fingers move up and down the strings putting a smile on everyone's face.

Bear is a Finish Carpenter by trade and very much enjoys making things from wood. He can be found in his shop crafting furniture or simply making a repair around the house. He recently got into gardening and found the reward of growing his own vegetables. Lettuce, radishes, peppers, anything to put on the table. It doesn't get any better than that.

Get to know HDF member "MyFavRK". You'll be glad you did.
