I think the first thing I need to do is go to a dealer and take a newer sportie out for a test drive. I have rode a late 90's LR and absolutly loved it, I also have rode a 883 and absolutly hated it, but never a 1200.
Oh yeah, to all of you who say I should hold off, I have been holding off for six years now. Plus the wife said I could, so that's all I need. [sm=kissykissy.gif]

I will give you one piece of advice in two parts; When my wife said "you should get a motorcycle" I ran to the nearest stealer and baught that Honda (harley look alike) and then I spent the next 6 months convincing my wife I really wanted the harley (luckily both our parents own HDs)!
Moral is get it now and don't wait because she may change her mind (oh boy you can say that again!) and get what you want the 1st time!

Buy a cheap metric and ride it until money isn't as tight.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" but I was referring to the bike owned by Gconklin. =)

I would go with the Low Rider. 20K is not that many miles. Look at the 'mature' beauty posted above. =)

Questions, questions and more questions!!!
- What is your riding skill level?
- What is your real reason for "needing" a bike at this point in your relation ship with the 3 month old?
- What does your signifiant other think of it? Does she know? Does she care?
- Do you have steady income?
- Do you have other "Dependable" transportation for the rest of the family?
Well enough for the questions. I'm sure you have plenty of good reasons for getting yourself a bike!
Everything is a big resposibility with a new born. Finances are a big concern. My kids are now in there 30's and its been a long time for be to get my own toys.
Not coming down on your case. I've been the metric route, if you want to save money, and have something fuel efficiant, start with a New metric thats 500 cc's or greater, but go into it with more cashfor less financing.
You want to keep as much in the bank as you can for family emergencys. And its not bad if you find a used one thats dirt cheap and pay it out right, just keep in mind that when you by used your not really knowing the total history and it may hit you in the wallet over time. The only reason that I've "not" mentioned you polled H-D's in question is they can end up much more expensive then a metric or a solid used one forsale outright.
But look on the bright side, being of sound mind and body you can spend all your childrens inheritance while your alive! Thats what I'm doing now.
Overall, I'm really leary about anymore advise or questions, I've seen young folks do and get in the past and nothing ever became of it, but those were rare cases. Most the time I've seen nothing but trouble come from getting things for yourself, to early on with out having a "real good" income and financial stability.
Let us know what you decide! Its really up to you in the long run. I just hate to think youthat you maybe setting yourself up for a rough road ahead expecially with a new young one and limited finances from the start.
