Default what is the diference between a chopper and a bobber?

This might be a stupid question, but what makes a bike a "bobber" and what makes a bike a "chopper'? I've tried looking them up on the internet, and the results seem to use the terms as synonyms. Any ideas?

in general a chopper and a bobber are close to the same, except a chopper has a longer front end and frame mods. and a boober is striped down to just whats needed. more or less kind of the same. thats the way im going to explain it.

Most anything I ever saw that would be called a Bob was an old FL orFLH with everything stripped off but the bare essentials, little or no chrome, not much in the way of customization except maybe a front fender reversed for the rear fender, very few were anything to be proud of.

What I call a chopper had a raked neck, long tubes, molded frame and a nice paint job and every thing chromed that could be chromed. Of course they handled like Sh*t til you got rolling good, but they had the look.

Good Luck

Tom

Bobber is stripped down, removing everything that is unnecessary to make the bike lighter.

Chopper is kind of the opposite actually. Raked out, radical paint job, covered in chrome.

So what would you call a bike with raked neck, long tubes, little or no chrome, and a nice paint job?
'Cause I think that's what I want.

What TOMMAY said a "true" bobber is a stripped FL or FLH. Most of what the call bobbers today are a non stretched chopper.

Why's a chop gotta have chrome and a sissy paint job?

Chop = cuttin' on the frame to rake it.

Bob = strippin' the garbage barge crap off.

Magazine chops = chrome and sissy paint job.

Everyone knows that the only true HD chop/bob color is black, preferably from a Rustoleumrattle can!
