At one time in the old days there wasn't that many motorcycles on the road so it was to show brotherhood* of fellow riders. Now everyone and a his dog has a motorcycle and waving gets tedious and just a pain in the hiney.
* And to be politically correct sisterhood.

I always wave over here in Munchkinland (Long Island New York). I can't tell if a cruiser-type bike is a Harley or not but I tend to get more waves from those riders. I get very few waves from non-cruiser riders.

Sometimes I point, then wave both hands like a maniac.
Or do the “walk like an Egyptian”
Ya know, just to keep it fresh.
