Default Throw-over bags question

Hi guys. I just got a set of second hand leather throw over sadle bags and am not sure how to mount them. I assume that I take the seat off and place them over the fender and under the seat. How do I keep them from flopping? Will they rub my paint off? If so, how do I prevent this? I had a set of nylon bags on my old bike and never had an issue with rubbing but they had straps to secure the front and back of the bags to....something, whatever. I usualy used the pasanger pegs and rear blinkers. How waterproof are leather bags? Would I look gay with Tourmaster bags on my FXDX? I am all about function, but to a point. Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes the go under seat. You need a saddle bag support bracket similar to this picture. It will keep bags away from bike and give you a place to secure with a tie wrap....
