Bike dies when I pull the clutch in...suggestions?
This morning, about 10 minutes after leaving the house with 3/4 tank of gas and riding at about 45 MPH, I approached an intersection where I turn right. As I approached, I began to apply the brakes slowly, pulled in the clutch and began to downshift. As I did that, the bike backfired twice loudly and the engine died. At this time I am still rolling at about 5-7 MPH and about to take the turn. I noticed the "quietness" of the engine, looked down and see the engine oil lamp on, indicating that the engine has died. While still turning, I engaged the starter and the bike started without issues, allowing me to finish taking the turn and sped off normally.
A few hundred feet ahead I slowed down due to traffic, and as I started to do so, the bike backfired and felt weird so I gave it a bit more gas, enough to keep her off idle. I was able to keep her alive. I did this (keeping her off idle) for the next few miles until I got to the parking lot. As I was turning right into the parking lot, the same thing happened. It backfired and it died. I was able to start her back up without a problem while still rolling. I entered the parking lot in first gear and parked without issues. The bike idled fine while parked and bleeping the throttle did nothing and felt fine.
Any ideas as to what could have happened?
The bike (2014 Heritage Classic) is stock except for Rush slip-ons and an FP3 tuner that I installed years ago. No prior issues or recent modifications that point to a possible cause. The weather was sunny and in the upper 60's with no prior precipitation. Bike is garaged so it was not exposed overnight and have been using it daily without issues until this morning. gas tank was filled 4 days ago.

I had this happen on my 02 Road King. I'd be riding, pull in the clutch and the bike would die. It would start right back up though.
It was the speed sensor in the transmission. Someone on the forum told me about the issue. I pulled it out (one allen bolt on top of the trans), cleaned it off, and it was fine. Although I did replace it.
Good luck.

Sounds like the symptoms of a faulty throttle position sensor, though I agree with above post that it may be the vehicle speed sensor possibly as well.

Looks like this

EDIT: Just looked on Youtube and it isn't right on top of the trans like a touring bike. Probably want to be at home for repair. Good luck.
