Bike Shakes

RE: Bike Shakes
Thanks John. I put about four hundred miles on the bike after the windshield install before the shaking/wobbling started. I notice it’s a lot worse when I back off the gas. At fifty to sixty, when the wobbling starts, if I throttle back, the wobbling gets worse right away. Twist some power back on and it still wobbles, but smoothes out noticeably.
I did check for a loose axle nut and spokes. The front tire is not cupped. I can check the triple tree / fork tube pinch bolts, but have not yet. It’s due for the 10,000 mile check up next week, so if I don’t get it worked out by then, I’ll let the pro’s at Hundred Dollar do the rest.
Thanks for all the help.

If nothing wrong is found from the previous suggestions, have your front wheel/ tire balanced. I had a bike with a violent head shake around 60mph and it turned out to be the balacnce weightwas missing from the front wheel.

RE: Bike Shakes
If you still experience problems after checking all the mechanical issues mentioned above, consider this. With the rake of a WG being what it is, and the mounting angle of the HD windshields being what they are I have found these two combined do not offer the proper amount of aerodynamics to allow the bike to cut through the wind instead of buffeting against it. My '03 was terrible, buffeting at or above 65 mph, so badly everything was double vision. Seems to be an inherent problem with the WG's.
First I added fork braces and that helped somewhat, but still the buffeting. Finally, I made up some adapters to allow the bottom of the shield to be mounted (kicked out) about 2" and hoila!, problem solved. Just make sure the top of the shield is at eye level or so. Now it runs beautiful and cuts through the wind at 80 mph like a hot knife through butter. And the braces really help stabilize the front end over bumps as well as through the turns.
just my $.02 worth...

Thanks Mike...the thing has always buffeted a bit which was a minor pain, but this left right thing is driving me crazy. I'll work it some toward the end of the week and let everybody know the outcome. Thanks for all the help.
