Oregon Fuel Laws - can't pump your own gas
So...planning a trip through Oregon a few weeks. My wife asked me if I was going to get gas in Oregon. Of course I am I say to her. She says...but you're going to let the pump jockey put the gas in your tank? hmmm....makes one wonder. I don't like other's touching my gas cap...for goods sake...how do I kn ow they will properly place the gas cap while fueling it up.
But on a serious side note...do bikers let those HS drop outs fill up their bikes in Oregon? Or do I need to carry a gas can. I probably only need to stop for gas one time while I pass through the south east corner of the state.

When we were in Oregon (by car), I didn't know that was the law. I hopped out and started pumping my own gas. A gentleman came over and chatted me and watched me, but never interfered. Then some one else pulled up and he went over to them. There must have been 10 pumps but only one of him that I could see. Don't know how that works. Wait until he's busy then pull in and get your gas quick!

My understanding in OR is that classic cars, boats and MC's are exempt. They simply hand you the nozzle.

(1) As used in this section, “motorcycle” has the meaning given that term in ORS 801.365 (“Motorcycle”).
(2) Notwithstanding ORS 480.330 (Operation of gasoline dispensing device by public prohibited) and 480.340 (Coin-operated or self-service gasoline pumps prohibited):
(a) Upon the request of an operator of a motorcycle, the owner, operator or employee of a filling station, service station, garage or other dispensary where Class 1 flammable liquids are dispensed at retail shall set the fuel dispensing device and hand the discharge nozzle to the operator of the motorcycle.
(b) An operator of a motorcycle who is handed a discharge nozzle under paragraph (a) of this subsection:
(A) May dispense Class 1 flammable liquids into the operator’s motorcycle.
(B) Shall, after dispensing the liquids, return the discharge nozzle to the owner, operator or employee.
(3) The owner, operator or employee who is handed the discharge nozzle shall return the nozzle to the pump or take any other actions necessary to ensure safe completion of the fueling operation. [2001 c.344 §2]
Note: 480.349 (Use of gasoline dispensing device by motorcycle operator) was added to and made a part of 480.315 (Policy) to 480.385 (Civil penalty for gasoline dispensing law violations) by legislative action but was not added to any smaller series therein. See Preface to Oregon Revised Statutes for further explanation.

Oregon is one of two states (with New Jersey) that require a third party to dispense gasoline and other Class1 liquids at retail locations. House Bill 2482-A allows self-service at retail locations 24 hours per day in rural counties with fewer than 40,000 certified residents, which includes Clatsop, Malheur, Union, Wasco, Tillamook Hood River, Curry, Jefferson, Crook, Baker, Morrow, Lake, Grant, Harney, Wallowa, Gilliam, Sherman, and Wheeler counties. Because these counties are sparsely populated, proponents of the measure assert that it is impractical to staff a retail facility for fueling 24 hours per day. This could create a situation in which a traveler may be without the ability to refuel in a remote location late at night. Currently, a traveler caught under these circumstances would need to call the State Police ,who would bring a nominal amount of fuel and phone the operator of the nearest retail fuel location to open the location to provide fuel to the hapless traveler. Dispensaries that also sell goods and services at retail at the same location must provide an employee to dispense Class1 liquids between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
