I’ve heard gossip that HD may discontinue the Sportster line. A dinosaur. Huh?? What might be the reasoning? Clearly, they are looking for younger riders, but I would think that just size alone makes the Sportster better positioned for that market. Are cruisers out of style? I doubt that.

Hard to believe they would drop Sportys unless they have something cool lined up to replace / modernize them. Have a Sportster Low (883) for my wife, sweet bike. I see a lot of Sportsters (all variants) around town.

Speculation only here but wouldn't killing off the cheaper bikes force first time buyers into the more expensive range? And could also be a ploy to steer those same first time buyers into the new dual sports and the streets that are not selling.

I always thought the cheaper Sportster was to entice people into the Harley environment..

I'm guessing the future "Streetfighter" and "Custom" show the direction they're headed for their lighter bikes.

I think moving to the new DOHC liquid cooled engines would be easier than upgrading the existing Sporty engine, and that will mean all new bikes...

That engine isn't going to meet new emissions regulations. Same reason Harley ditched the Twin-Cam.

Looked at CARB and the sportster engine size was still there. 883, 1200 but they also had two other engines that caught my interest. Neither listed specific cc but one was listed under 200cc and one under 250cc (this in addition to the 494cc and big twins.

I think it would be a shame to get rid of the Sportster. I had one and loved it. The only reason i upgraded was to gain more storage and the fairing/radio...... I loved that Sporty. Y'all call it a girls bike, but that thing would whip anything around here, was nimble, quick, and rode well. Yes I did some work on it, but don't we all??? The history is pretty important as well. But..... this is all from an old man and who listens to us??? Everyone is struggling.... just don't do anything extremely stupid!
