Default Blinker light problem...acting like a running light

Did a search and couldn't find the answer, so...
This morning driving in to work I noticed that my left front "blinker" stays on like a running light. All blinkers work and none of the other blinkers are lite until you acuate the blinker system.
This is the first time I took off in the dark and so never noticed it before.
Q: when turning on the main switch, should all the lights ("blinker" as well as head/tail light) come on, or do I have a problem with just the left front.

Q: Which ever way it should be (Harleys don't/do use thier blinkers as running lights) and where should I start to look to fix the problem?

BTW: Bike is an 05 Night Train

Thanks

You have one element in the right blinker bad. Change the bulb over there. The fronts should always be illuminated.

The front 'blinkers' are also always on as running lights. So if you only have one of them on, sounds like the other side might be burned out.

Thanks oldgezzer and pjweber.

I will go check that right now.

So, only the front act as "running lights" and the rear should remain off?

Interesting.

Thanks for the help

That was it.
Took it out and one of the elements is burnt. Looks like a standard two element like I replace in my Jeep from time to time. Or is this a special (made in china) HD only light?

BTW:...just kidding.

Thanks again for the help

I'm not sure about where you live, but the law out here in hooterville is that if you convert your rear turn signals to running lights, the lenses or bulbs have to be red.

Same out here...rear running lights need to be red; fronts illegal to be red.

I did the HD brake light/running light conversion on the rear and it comes with the red lense.

Thanks all.
I will ride alittle more before deciding if I need to convert the rear to running lights also.
Just wasn't sure on the front because of the light (dark outside) situation. But now that the bike is going to be my daily work vehicle (along with some pleasure cruises) I will be learning more and more from the bike and you all.

Just would like to say, internet sites like these are some of the best reasons for having an internet. Years ago, alot of things were trail and error trying to figure things out. I spent many a wasted hour, fixing something that wasn't broke, because I broke it trying to fix something else.
Now we have sites like this one where those that know, share with those that don't. Thanks for help a rookie HD guy out, and keeping me from breaking something that don't need to be broke. BFH was my tool of trade before.

Thanks again.

Not trying to bust on you, but, you really should be checking those things every now and again.

I personally check my lights each and eveytimeI go riding. They are one of your mainline defenses in safety.
