Going back to a full face. I don't like a windshield in the summer and I'm tired of trying to hold my novelty down with one hand at 70 mph.
Will work out better with eyewear as well. I can just wear my regular glasses.

 

You should look into the Bell Pit Boss then, zero lift issues like the cheapies and a built in pull down visior. Thought that was a gimmick till I started using it during the cold season. Love it now.

 

For most rides I’m wearing my a Daytona 3/4 Cruiser helmet with some goggles. When it gets warm I switch to a Daytona Carbon Fiber half helmet and sunglasses. Cold and wet weather and I put on my LS2 full face modular. I get some mild claustrophobia in a full face.

 

When I began riding helmets were required for riders under 18 so I wore a 3/4, sometimes. I wore my helmet when I went to register for my first classes at UNLV. On the way home I was knocked off my scooter by a fence plank that flew off a truck I was meeting. After tumbling, bouncing, and sliding I had a cut chin that took a couple of stiches so I went FF.

4 years later while desert racing, on the same course as that year's Mint 400, I had a bad crash. I received some damage, but my face was not affected. Decades later FF helmets had vents and that was a big improvement in the desert heat. I have had a couple of minor incidents in the past couple of decades. They were minor because the face bar prevented my chin from hitting/sliding on the street.

Another consideration is that they both occurred on city streets, which is where most incidents happen, and not on a highway really going anywhere. Speed is almost irrelevant when considering possible damage to the head/face.

 

I couldn't remember what kind of helmet I use, so I went out to look. Couldn't find any brand-name. I guess you'd call it a "Halfy." Only markings I found were these:












Don't worry 'bout me though. The scratches etc. on that brain bucket are from sliding it inside my saddlebags whenever we cross over into Florida. Me, my bikes, nor my government-mandated helmets have never been down. Not saying it can't or won't happen, just saying I don't trust government to make my safety decisions for me. Last time I wore a full face helmet was about 35 years ago. Went from Torrance, CA up to Santa Barbara and back. My neck was killin' me for weeks afterwards. No thanks.

When I crashed my 2003 Road King, I was wearing a modular HJC, saved my face as the scratches and gouges can attest to, I wear a Shoei NeoTec now with an IMC sound, intercom system, even in the heat it is okay to wear, the venting works and if it is a slow ride, I pop open the visor a bit to add more air flow. Switching from the HD intercom headset and microphone to IMC reduced the wind noise significantly making the ride more enjoyable.

 

I have a polo beanie, 3/4, and fullface...what I wear depends on where I'm going and what the weather is....period.

 

Bell Pit Boss half helmet and a HJC 3/4. I only use the 3/4 when the temp gets below 60.

 

I guess a “No-Helmet” option is not on the poll which is how I ride. Always wore a Bennie helmet or half helmet in NY because it was mandatory. When I got to Texas and found it was a no helmet state, I ditched the Helmet. Except the military and my wife both want me to wear a helmet. To meet them halfway, when I’m on the HWY I’ll wear one. I don’t wear it when I’m riding the back country roads where I prefer to ride.

 

Bay area would confuse you badly then , it's in the 50's every morning I go to work and anywhere from 75 to 90+ when I go home. Drops below 50 I put the ear & neck muffler back on the Pit Boss, Works well for me.
