I have a Shoei full face and a Daytona half helmet. I wear the full face a lot more than the half. I find the Shoei to be fine in hot weather with all the vents. I just feel better having more protection.

Recently, I was going about 55 MPH on a two-lane highway. A gravel truck was coming towards me in the opposite lane. I never saw it when it hit the bike, but a rock flew off the truck and hit my bike. It made a hell of a noise when it hit. I pulled over to get a look at the damage. The rock hit the left fork cover (cowbell) and left a sizable dent. As I'm standing there, I wondered what kind of damage the rock would have done to my face if I had been wearing a helmet without face protection. I'm glad I didn't find out. I wear a Shoei Neotec modular helmet, but I still wondered what kind of damage the face shield would have sustained if it had taken the hit and how much protection it would have provided.

1/2 lid for the last 40 years and a 3/4 before that, all there was in those days I have upgraded the quality considerably over that time, current helmet of choice is the Bell Pit Boss, most comfortable wearing & practical lid I've ever had.

Shoei motocross. Want full face protection but can’t stand the claustrophobia of the full face with the shield down. Had a Bell Moto9 previously. There’s a lot of hype on Shoei’s website about the aerodynamics of their motocross helmet. I wear mine with the visor. Shoei knows what they’re talking about when it comes to helmet aerodynamics. I even stuck my head out from behind the batwing to test the aero with the visor. I couldn’t believe it!

The Bell was unwearable with the visor. BTW, I hate sunscreen and the visor saves me the burn while riding inf FL.

Shoei isn’t cheap but if you want a motocross helmet with almost no buffeting, they have it figured out.

Heading into Northern Michigan (from the Metro Detroit area) over the 4th holiday. Full face up and down (for comfort at freeway speeds). When I get up there, I'll switch to a half while tooling around in the woods. Much thanks to other members of this forum for pointing out the benefits of the former on longer rides.

I've worn Full Face ever since the Bel Star came out. That and I kinda like having a jaw bone, teeth and stuff like that.

I came to in the E.R. with the Leo holding this helmet and saying to the Doctor; "I gotta get me one of these!" An excellent endorsement, although I'd just as soon not repeat the experience.

3/4 around town (Bell Hart Luck) light retro full for longer (AGV retro, X3000) and Shoei neotec for multi day or cold weather.

When I was younger I just wore novelty helmets. Recently got back into riding and started out with an Akoury held helmet but then decided to get something with some more protection. Have a Biltwell lane splitter for colder riding but I really don’t like the feel of a full face with the shield down so the rest of the time I wear a Simpson M50. Doesn’t offer the best protection for the face but it’s comfortable
