I have heard of a way to file for reimbursement of mechanical work if the city had been made aware of the pothole in a certain timeframe. However, I have also heard that the success rate for this claim is very low.
But, I guess there are more efficient ways to get roads fixed...

Around 2002 I hit a overpass, shadowed pothole in Queens, NY at about 60mph,bent both rims and flattened my front tire of my old softail. It was a a slow go to the shop about 15 miles away and that was when I got my new upgraded rims on that bike. I never took it up with the city but considered it for a while.

They covered some of the damage and if I remember correct, the time and headache wasn't worth it at all.
Of course, that's how the system is built.

Pa did the same thing years ago, we pay the highest gas tax in the country to pay for our roads. Guess what. Our roads are some of the worst in the country and something like 70% of our bridges are "structurally deficient".
