A few years ago a new gas station opened up by me that has "ethanol free" gas and it's now around $3.79gal. I fill up the vehicles I'm storing with it just prior to storing them. Ethanol too is a slight octane enhancer itself. Most modern vehicles have plastic, viton or stainless steel components that are compatible with ethanol. Older vehicles with rubber fuel lines, cork floats in carbs, steel fuel tanks can have issues over time if stored frequently.
I have no argument with any of that. However the OP lists his location and Bull Shoals, which I believe is in Arkansas. So he shouldn't be storing his bike over the winter.

not so, at least according to hd. they say that the clean air act prohibits the use of ethanol content above 10% in motorcycles. but regardless, e10 is fine, but don't use higher. and it won't hurt you to use a lower octane occasionally. there may be times on the road when you can't get the higher octane, you may notice a slight lack of engine performance, or you may not. there are lots of folks on here who refuse to pay the extra money for the higher octane.

I think you've been lucky. That might be OK in cold weather, and under light riding conditions, but in hot weather
and/or under heavy load, especially in higher gears, you're asking for ping damage.

It's not worth the risk just to save a couple bucks.

Don’t run more than 10% ethanol, unless your motor is designed to run on it...and Harley’s are not.

octane rating is additives, including ethanol, in the gasoline to reduce pre-detonation, a.k.a. Pinging, knock, etc. higher compression, high load, high temperatures, can cause pre-detonation. Modern motors, like later model Harleys, detect pre-detonation, and then make adjustments such as retarding spark, to reduce predetonation. As such, by running lower octane, your ECU may detect pre-detonation, and retard the spark...and thereby as a consequence reducing power, to reduce the detonation.

The only time I would run below 91 is in higher altitudes and only if I couldn't find 91 octane. All newer Harley Davidson bikes recommend 91. And the E10 is fine if you are running it out. Don't put it in if your going to let the bike sit, if you plan to let it sit find non E10 91

The 91 has ethanol, and 87 did not??????????????

I am not going to accuse of being a troll, cause I can't figure out why.

Do you own anything else that runs on gas?

What do all of you expect the car and motor companies to say about ethanol. The government forces them to use it. Do any of you think manufactures would say anything against ethanol, they would be fined and put out of business. I see what it does to my small engines, I always keep a can of alcohol on my shelf as a solvent, it destroys the metal can in a few months, the lid corrodes on. We have ethanol free around here and glad of it.

This is probably a more pressing question.
