Harley-Davidson Could Reap Massive Benefits from Social Influencers
#11
I just realized that social influencer means the same thing as paid celebrity spokesperson. D'uoh! An example would be Peter Fonda & Dennis Hopper. LeBron James for "Swoosh footwear". Any hot super model for perfume. Bruce Jenner on a Wheaties box. Hells Bells, some of us HD Forum'ers are influencers too. Like when we list our mods in our signatures.
It's an old tactic with a new name on a new platform. Us old cogs just don't appreciate the new platform.

Sigh.... OK so technically I'm a millennial. Social media seems to be a cesspool of narcissistic bullshit to me. I don't use it. The fact that Harley is throwing party's made for Instagram photo ops and hiring clowns with online presence to sell an image to people who admittedly give no concerns to the actual enjoyment of riding but may want a bike they can pose near for the sake of a image sickens me.

Quote from Mattbastard: "If some sheep see a socially equal person to them having a good time on a Harley than they will be more influenced into that brand than if someone famous were to do the same"
If that were true, advertisers wouldn't spend gazillions of dollars having famous people in their ads. Everyone thinks they can hang with, and be like the famous.

I cannot stand the term Social Influencer. This is a BS title that someone came up with for some little millenial douche that couldn't hack it in the real world so they started mass posting on social media or pooping out daily youtube videos trying to tell others how to live their life.
These are the types of people that pander to the fools. They know some are out there that are too incompetent to think for themselves so they put out a couple of attention getting posts or videos. Then once they have em sucked in with that they start slowly filtering in their agenda.
F Zuckerberg and his socialist media. I say shut them all down. Let's actually start talking to each other and visiting in person again. Don't invite me to your wedding on FB, I ain't gonna show, cause I don't do FB.

Cases and Points:
A bunch of Celebs (Cher, Arnold, Pee Wee Herman, et al) sit their cabooses on a Harley. Suddenly EVERYONE wants one- the line for the two year wait forms in the rear.
The same group of goobers get photographed with big cigars in their mouths- Suddenly I can't get a good cigar for years. And the prices went thru the roof and stayed there.
Tiger Woods (Version 1.0) is good at golf. Now what used to be a walk up requires a reservation 6 weeks in advance. And we can't have just a nice regular golf course, now they all have to be designed by
a PGA-er. So my $20 for 18 holes on a Saturday went to $80. And now golf courses are suffering because all the celebrity driven wanna beez found out that golf is hard, even after you spent $2000 on a set of clubs.
ANYTHING the Kartrashians put their name on causes their fans to run out and buy it. Remember the Kardashian Kard? Worst most expensive debit card every duped on the public- so expensive they ended up pulling it off the market.
But not before thousands of idiots jumped on it simply because of the name.
Yaah.........Celebrity Sells.

From a marketing perspective it's genius. If you look at things from the "social ladder" perspective, having paid celebrity endorsements is the top down approach. Using social influencers is the bottom up approach. It all boils down to getting product into people's heads any way possible. Social influence is effective, but using different social classes to send the same message is a two-pronged approach.
It still sickens me how influenceable most people are though.
