2008 105th Year Anniversary. Cool or just Hype?
So it appears that HD will be celebrating their 105th year annivesary in 2008 with yet another series of Annivesary bikes. There was the 95th Anniversary, then the 100th Anniversary and now the 105th Anniversary. Isit just another marketing ploy to sell more bikes? Probably. Does it make them more collectiblethan non-anniversary bikes?Somewhat. Would you buy one?

The badging wouldn't matter one way or the other if I wanted that particular bike, unless the anniversary model was priced higher, then I'd pass. The 03 anniversary bikes seem to be a dime a dozen- I see them everywhere, and the used ones at the dealer don't seem to demand a premium.
Someday though, all Harleys as we know them now will be worth big bucks.

Yes, to much. I can see selling an anniversary bike for a particular models anniversary, say at ten years, twenty five, fifty. But every five years is excessive.

But I can guarantee you, there are fewer '03 bikes on the road than all the other years put together.

HD has been building bikes for about 105 years and only built the "limited edition" '03 bikes for 18 months (as I remember). Yes, there are fewer '03 bikes on the road than all the other years put together, butmore '03 bikes are out there than '02.
BTW, I really liked the "limited edition" 90th anniversary '93 model Dyna bikes. The two-tone light blue and tan was neat and HD did not build them for 18 months!

I don't know of any of the HD anniversary bikes that are worth anymore than any other model, so I do not think that a 105th Anniversary will be a big deal. The 100th hasn't even been a big deal, and it should have been a bigger milestone that the 85th, 90th, 95th and now the 105th.
If one is looking for an investment, HD is not it.

I know it's personal taste but to me the 100th anniversary is the ugliest tank badging of any Harley in decades. Not only would I not consider them collectible, I wouldn't buy one because of that.

It looked like they used "Christmas wrap." I bet it was "Christmas" for the stock holders.

I do like the silver and black `03's but new anniversary models every five years seems excessive.
