I’m working on “blackening” my 2019 Low Rider and the next step is black fork sliders and signals. However I’m thinking the silver lower triple tree (the top one is hidden by my cafe fairing) may look out of place with the black sigs and fork mounts.
So so instead of the expensive and complicated job of r&r’ing the triple tree and having it powder coated, I was thinking of trying that black film car shops use to black out chrome window trim and the like. But I had a couple of questions for anyone with experience using it.
1) how durable is it? I.e. is it suitable for forward facing components, like the bottom fork triple tree clamp, in the wind, taking road dust, etc.
and 2) how difficult to apply? Could it be applied to a lower fork triple tree clamp, with decent looking results?
I had my air cleaner, dash, fairing skirt and cow bells done by a company. Total cost was about $150 for the carbon fiber wrap and labor. They said that when covering chrome parts they couldn't warranty the wrap because it doesn't stick the greatest to chrome. It's only been on a few months so I can't say anything as to the longevity of the wrap.
I would suggest taking the bike to the company that's does the wrap. Let them have a look and get your answers from them.
I figured if it lasts a couple years that I would probably be ready for a change and for $150 it's not that big a deal to replace it.
I bought a van with the carbon fibre look on mirrors door handles and center spoke of steering wheel. I don't know how long it was on before I bought it. The top layer (clear) is blistering and peeling. Looks like a shiney clear layer over the carbon fiber.

Thanks both. I think if I can get even a year out of it it would be worth it. From what you paid, my job would probably be 50 or less. Maybe worth the try!
