really depends on condition I'd say, cheapest would probably be an Evo or early TC as I think shovels and pans even though they're now pretty old still fetch good money. Don't know were you'd get an engine without a bike attached to it either.
you could try Beakys Harley car boot sale, which is on this month sometime, it'll be advertised on line, and is on in Dorking, you may get an engine there. Think a new TC is around £3,000 .

Very true. A couple of years ago I was killing time on ebay because I was bored. You can get low mileage or virtually no mileage engines at a reasonable price. Shipping is probably going to be the deal breaker though.

Definitely a Twin Cam 88. Not only are they a technological step in the right direction compared to the Evo (and I'll argue that to my grave based on personal experience), they're also quite adaptable onto Evo transmissions and primaries, and most are already set up for carb use. Find yourself a standalone ignition system like the Thunder Heart and you're ready to rip. I just bought a 2000 TC engine, trans, Primary, belt, FI, exhaust, and wiring harness from a Police RK (with the ***** MM FI that's going into the bin) for $1200. The motor is clean but dusty. Good luck finding an Evo without chipped and flaking black paint for anywhere close to that price and condition.
Oh, and parts for the TC motor are WAY more plentiful than on the Evo.
