Default Shoei helmet - fitment question

I just got a new Shoei GT Air II helmet, it's a full face with an internal sun visor, nice helmet. My previous helmet is an Icon, size L, fits like a proverbial glove. When I pulled the Shoei out (also a L), and pulled it on my head, my head hit the top inside and it felt like it wasn't on all the way. It seems to be a shorter helmet. My head measurement is 58mm, and Shoei says an L is 58-60. The issue isn't circumference though.

Can any Shoei helmet owners shed some light? Is this just the way they make their helmets? Not sure if an XL would solve this or not. (The drawbacks of mail order...)

That Shoei probably just isn’t made for your head shape. That’s the problem with buying a new helmet blind without trying it on first. Sorry to say, but you’re probably going to need to go with a different helmet. Hopefully you can return it. Try going to a Cycle Gear and trying on the helmets you like before buying one.

Some are, some aren't:

This is why you should always find a way to try on a helmet before you buy it.

Incorrect. The Shoei Neotec is made for an intermediate oval head. That’s what my head is and it fits me perfectly.

Most Shoei full face helmets are made for immediate oval or long oval.

Thanks guys. There aren't a lot of places to go and try helmets where I live. I purchased the helmet from Revzilla, they have a no hassle return policy as long as I don't ride with it. I just talked to them, they said my previous helmet is a sport helmet (which I knew) and it is about 1/2" longer down the neck area. The Shoei is a "sport/touring" model and is a little shorter by design. The thing that really drew me to this helmet is that it's FF but has the internal visor. As a commuter, changing face shields is a real pain in the butt. Dark when I leave, then the sun comes up like a laser beam, so pull over and change shields. Granted, this is only in spring/fall, but still something I'm tired of.

I guess I'll wear it around the house for a bit before I decide.

Very cool site, thanks for this. Both my old and new helmets are listed as "slightly narrow" shape.

I just bought Arai Quantum X (this one is for round oval). This is what I'm going to do.............put it on at least 20-30 minutes for a few days to see if there are any hot spots. Make sure it's comfortable.
