Are helmets with graphics over the top?

I don't think too many people are going to really look at and admire some anonymous rider's helmet. That leaves you, your passenger (maybe) and friends who might (or might not) like graphics. So as others have said, do what pleases you first. If others' opinions matter, ask them.
As far as my personal tastes go, I'm not into attention-grabbing anythings. Any design touches will be subtle and not garish. A helmet with graphics for me would have to be fairly controlled. I'm not doing flames, skulls and aggressive looks. I prefer more of an incognito look. My leathers don't sport patches or MoCo logos of any kind. I'm a very boring guy to look at going down the highway.

Cool. Most pin-stripe artists at bike events also do helmets. If I were to do something like this, my only reservation would be spending a lot of coin to get artwork done on an object that gets dinged and worn out in short order. Helmets are not made of sheet metal with layers of paint and clear coat but plastic shells covering hard foam. Wouldnt be bad as a collectors item though.

IMO graphics are a personal way of practicing safety. More than loud pipes save lives, a driver will see an obnoxious helmet. Bold colors, et al aren't for me, but I get it. Love the WW2 fighter graphics. I have a Shoei with red stripes. I'm not one to look obnoxious for obnoxious sake, but I'd rather wear a loud helmet than a blaze yellow vest. I'm good with it. If I saw it on a Harley I'd laugh with approval. Now THAT guy is an individual more than any guy with a skull cap on.
