AMC had those bikes ready for production when the employee group bought H-D. The new group did not have the resources to launch them and engineer a new air cooled bike. So they made a decision to go ahead and come out with the Evolution bike.
I wonder what today would be like if they had went with the 500 cc V2, 1,000 cc V4, and the 1,500 cc V6?
The top bike was a V6 not the V4.
The reason the went with Porsche was that they have a plant to design and build one off engines. H-D was not the only company that they built prototypes for.
