What is considered a lot of riding?

When I bought my Vulcan Classic 1500 end of April 2006, I had over 8,000 on it when I traded it in on my 07 Ultra on August 5th 2006. No commuting, all joy riding.
Since then I have over 10,000 on the Ultra, and another 3,000on the 04 Heritage I bought in February.
Getting ready for a 30 day 7-9,000 mile vacation ride in 2 weeks! That will be a lot of riding!

To me all riding is joy riding!
I put 4,000 miles on my new 07 Ultra in the first
23 days with no vacation trips and only 420 of the
4,000 miles was back and forth to work. The rest
was weekend and evening riding.
My first 07 Ultra had 30,000 miles on it in 9 1/2 months.
Every mile on a motorcycle ismiles with smiles IMO"

A fellow at work tried to convince me he put 385,000 miles on in 2 years.
In the more realistic world, I was on a ride just over a week ago and stopped at a rest stop to avoid a thunder storm blowing through. A couple on a new Ultra stopped as well. They were withthe Christian Motorcycle Association (I wish I could remember their names, a nice couple) and were the zone leaders for the Idaho/Utah area. They said they put about 40,000 miles a year on a bike travelling for the CMA. That to me was an astounding amount of miles on a bike, and a lot more believable than 385k in 2 years.
Personally, I've not broke 15,000 on a bike, and most years are closer to 10,000. So it sounds like you've got a good start on it.

An average of 500 miles a day for two years is do able..
I use to ride 100,000 miles a year in my younger days
while running a business and raising a family. So I
think someone who loves to ride and has the right
situation could very well do 500 miles a day average
for two years for a total of 385,000 miles.
I wouldn't mind giving it a try if I was a young man
which I'm NOT" [:'(]
More miles on a motorcycle is more smiles and memories
to hang on to!
