Our dynamic is that I handle the finances and deal with any problems associated with same. He's a wonderful man, but he doesn't fight any battles for me. I found out from a very early age that the only person I can TRULY count on is myself and NO ONE would fight any battles for me.

All respectable dealers call to get the exact payoff before the final contract is written up. Whoever is doing thier contracts hasn't a clue. This isn't rocket science.

About a year ago I got a letter in the mail that I had paid off my HELC, the account had been closed and a $1000+- check for the difference in what I had allegedly paid and what was owed! I tried to call the bank and they told me maybe my wife paid it off (yea like I wouldn't know that) and that it was paid off so don't worry about it.
Now I was born at night, but not last night, so to make a long story short I finally went over and talked to the VP of the bank and we discovered that someone had traded in a car and one digit of the account number was wrong. Of course this episode had no effect on my credit, but I can imagine the difficulties at the other end, especially if I'd waited for the bank to sort it out themselves. They would have had credit problems, and I'd would have had interest due, and who knows maybe even a late charge on my account to contend with.
Good luck, I wouldn't be surprised if this happens a lot more than we think.

GAGirl, I remember your original post about buying this deluxe but forgot if it was brand new or used.You mentioned here that thisis a Big Dog dealer.Are Harley Davidson motorcycles sold new at thisdealer?

I traded in my 04 Jeep for an 07 Silverado on the first of March. So naturally I didn't make the March payment on the Jeep. Three weeks later I gt a call from my bank wanting to know why the Jeep payment is5 days late. The dealer never sent in the payoff for the Jeep in 3 weeks. I went down and walked into the sales managers office and we had a come to Jesus meeting for about 10 minutes and the problem was solved.
I would not accept the late payments on your credit report. Contact an attorney friend and get it removed. Good luck.
