Heated Grips....
Thinking of trying to install heated grips on my '07 Fatboy, but the website states "not compatible with internally wired bars".
Has anyone tried this on an internally wired bar? Also, does anyone think they say this because the cable running between the grips gets warm/hot etc, and could cause a problem if it's near other wires, or is it simply because there is not enough room in the bar.
I'm kind of trying to decide as whether or not to try it.
Anything with a heat element makes me kind of nervous around electrics, but I just can't see how all the 1 1/4 bars coming out with internal wiring; that you can no longer have heated grips.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: Heated Grips....
Hey guys. Well, I installed the heated grips over the weekend and tried them out yesterday. Superb, absolutely amazing. On the highest setting they are almost uncomfortably hot. (Then again it's July), so in winter they are gonna be great with a little wind chill.
This has gotta be one of the best mods I made. I couldn't believe how hot they actually get.
I took a long trip yesterday and even when the temp is high you still get a little wind chill with normal grips over say 45/50 mph. Turning them on is cake, and they regulate from setting 1 to 6.
I think the reason HD say they are not compatible with the internally wired bars is for legal reasons, or something, I got no clue, because they went in real easy, no problems. As for installation of the whole system; it's a bitch, 'cuz the tanks coming off, bars etc etc, ....then again, i'm a new wrench, so i get pissed off easy, but if you take your time etc, etc, it's long but relatively simple.
As I said, one of the best mods I made, and you don't realize how amazing until you use them. ........Sort of like the *** warmer in my ragtop, great accessory that I use a lot.

Good luck with your heated grips. They are notorious for having a short life.

I was gonna buy the heated grips for my wife's bike, but didn't. I was told about their short life span and even shorter warranty, 30 days.

hmmm, what you mean by that. HD regularly has to repair them under warranty? I presume they come with a guarantee.
Anyhow, I think they're worth it. With the 20% at Zanotti's etc, they're $180. For me that's worth it on long rides with a lot of wind chill. I'm also in a very warm climate year round.
Edit //..... Tattoo...... 30 days ? wow, that's not long. You sure about that? That doesn't seem normal.

RE: Heated Grips....
Been using the HD heated grips since around 2002.
Defiantly work GREAT when brand new BUT for whatever reason they do
start to crap out. Had a set installed by the Dealer when I picked up my 07
at the beginning of April this year and theyalready only get somewhat warm.
Wife had a set put on her bike last Summer and by this Spring they crapped
out completly. Best way to buy them is when you buy your bike and have
them installed before delivery and then you get the 2 year warrenty also.
Otherwise it is 90 days I believe. Also do yourself a favor and put plastic
bags over the grips when washing your bike. I think getting them wet does
not help either.

Well, that's interesting what you all are saying about having a bad rap. Hope I don't get problems with them, as I really really like them. Guess the only good thing from that is I won't be using them all the time as the climate is really good here off the coast of Africa. So hopefully they won't break due to excessive use.
One thing for sure though is that if they do crap out I'll get a pair of Kuryaykn ones.
lol, now I feel like crap. Thanks.
