I've got a chinese copy of an air-operated Handy lift. Also have the side extensions, which I leave on permanently. i can ride up on the lift, get off while holding the bike with one hand and then tighten the wheel chock. Never had any problems with stability. Most always use straps for some added security. One of the best tools I ever bought. Allows me to service motorcycles, lawnmowers, and atv's without getting down on the floor. I use a HF jack that sits on the lift when I need to pull wheels.

It's good to have a lift that is stable on it's own.
Check out this video of the J&S lift. Start at 0:30 This guy carelessly swings the Harley around and climbs up on it when there are no straps. Yet he has complete confidence that the cycle won't fall. Straps always do help but it's great to have a stable lift to begin with.

i bought the harbor freight table lift about 10 years ago. i strap it down every time the bike goes on it. i have the straps already hooked to the lift, i have a picker upper thingie that i grab the hook that's going on the bike. it's strapped in and i'm not even off the bike yet. i built some wood footrests that go along side of the lift so i can have my feet in contact with the ground and level with the lift. the only problem i had with the lift was, the jack was low on oil. there's a small dome shaped thing on the side of the jack. it actually a rubber plug but it looks like a metal rivet because it's painted orange too. i took it out and added some oil. putting it back in took some doing but it has been totally problem free except for being low on oil.

I have that table and it has done fine for about 10 years now. It is about at its limit with a bagger but gets the job done.

The OTC 1545 is one of the best motorcycle lifts for Harley-Davidsons. You can easily install it under your Harley as it has only 3.5 inches min-height. Installment issue comes with some jacks due to their height. That's why double-check that. You can look at this lift and other well-rated lifts for HDs in the post below.

my sears craftsman lift was a little over $75 but I have to run the rear wheel up on to a 1 inch thick board to get the lift under it

Man, I thought that I was going "top-drawer" whenever I ordered my OTC 1545 lift. Then I came across this thread and realize that I was going "poor-boy". Some of these lifts are amazing. I will definitely get one of those full-bed lifts.

But I am definitely happy with my OTC.
