Tired installing new flanged gaskets with my tool, too tight of a fit so I've got the gaskets sitting in the freezer overnight

After letting the second pair of gaskets sit in the freezer overnight, there was no change in ease of install. I used my tool (bolt +washer) trick, and the gaskets came out like so. OK to run or will I have a leak? I’m at the point where I’m ok with taking it to an Indy...

I got flanged gaskets from Harley, and flat gaskets from Vance Hines, pictured below...

It looks like the gaskets you installed are the tapered ones, different from the 4 shown in the last pic, which look like the Screamin' Eagle style. Is that correct. I used the SE style with my V&H, which is what V&H requires. Incredibly simple to install, just push them in with no tools. But I highly recommend you use copper gasket sealant!

I made this vide, check around the 8 min mark

I'm installing that same pipe. I called my Indy guy that does really good work, he is going to give me a pair of Copper crush gaskets he says to use tomorrow. I am junking my tapered gaskets.

Run with it, those will seal just fine.

I agree. I would probably use the side of a 3/8" extension or a small socket and rub the pooched spots just to lay them down better. I have run them like that before without any problems.

I have a pair of V&H Longshots on my 02 Fat Boy and the flat gaskets leak on the rear pipe every time on those. I have been running the tapered gaskets with them for a couple of years now with no problems. I'll try the copper ones next time I have them off.

I've been using the tapered gaskets with both Longshots and Big Shots Longs and have't had an issue. I even switched between the 2 styles of pipes and a few R&Rs without changing the gaskets.

If you used the gasket tool you did it wrong, there's no friggin way the tool can crush the gasket.
It sits in the gasket.

Nice info in this thread, I was experiencing exhaust leaks and just wanted to share something (to hopefully save someone the hassle) and maybe someone can back it up..

This would be in regards to using the V&H flat(round) gaskets in a 96" twin cam(stock heads)... I installed the flat gaskets and immediately had concern on if they were going to work, once I fit the flange of my V&H 2-2 big radius to the exhaust port I knew they were never going to work. The exhaust port is way to deep to use the V&H flat gaskets.. I ended up using the stock tapered gaskets, and also investing in a locking nut kit from Stage 8 to keep the exhaust stud nuts torqued down (dyna vibration always worried me).

Maybe I installed the V&H gaskets wrong? But I'm sure different Harley stock heads have different depths of the exhaust port gasket area, so I guess the V&H recommended gasket is not for all?
