I'm not going to be much help with rebuilding/adjusting an S&S carb 'cause I don't know squat about them but.......it would be helpful for others if they knew the appiclication it's being used on. Model, year, modifications, etc. (punctuation would help too ). It sounds as if it's running lean if you can only ride it with the choke all the way on. I'm sure others will be in shortly to try and sort this out for you.

Edit: You might try looking in the carburetor related section of this forum. Your answer might be there.

That is a lot of carb for a stock Sportster in the first place. An S&S Super B is a racing carb and will never be perfect on the street; it was made to run wide open. There will always be a bit of roll on lag on the street.

I will venture a guess that you are leaking air big time on the intake side, gasket, "O' rings or worn shaft on the carb itself. Once you get those issues fixed get a rebuild kit for the S&S Super B and an assortment of jets.

S&S carb is good , don't know where the idea that it is to be run wide open came from .?
I run one on a 107 S&S engine .
east to rebuild, easy to tune ( several u-tubes on it )
and it has a adjustable acceleration pump( kinda takes care of roll on throttle)
No, it is not a CV carb that takes care of folks that do not understand how to roll on a performance carb.

Yoy have a piece of crap stuck in your intermediate jet. Drop the bowl, unscrew the jet (the long skinny one) and clean it out with c&c cleaner and compressed air. Also clean out the bowl and check the needle & seat while the bowl is off.

Nothing wrong with the "B" , I have run them for years. Perform the basic carb maintenance, Make sure your manifold is not sucking air. Does it have a carb brace installed?

B isn't good choice for a sporty, flow characteristics are all wrong for it and you'll get lousy gas mileage.
