my weekley screw up !
well I have been in the process of painting my tanks since the paint did not match and I had a gass spill after changing them from the one in my pic.
well I was reading a thread earlier about another forum member painting his bike, and he mentioned that he was using his buffer on his work. So I got this great Idea since I have a buffer that is almost new only used a few times. After 3 coats of clear and I was ready for my final clear coat.
I wet sanded the top clear coat and then spread some soft cut on the tank and then grabbed my buffer and then it hit the fan , as I did not think to clean the buffing wheel first since it hadnt been used in over a year I thought oh this will be fine. then I noticed I had something sticking to my paint my buffing wheel was sticking to the new paint and I had burnt through the paint and now have deep gouges in the base coat.
after sanding them down and then respraying the left tank the burns and gouges showed up again. Worst of all this is a candy Paint job over a red primer and two different colors of Red Base coat.
I knew better so I am laughing at my own screw up now I will have to wait till tomorrow and let it all dry and get some heavy sand paper and hand sand the top of the tank to get the gouges out as they are smoth when running your hand over them but you can see them through the candy paint .

Does this mean that you not going to hollister?
Dont feel bad, even professionals do it.Just bought my wife a 350Z three weeks ago.We had to take it back to the dealer to repair a couple of chip marks and a detail on them.Went to pick up the car and could not believe the swirl marks in the hood.Well we left the car there so the could fix it.Went back again only to find more swirl marks and burnt paint on the bumper.Took the car home and brought it back AGAIN because they said they would have the bumper painted.Well now they realized that it is FUBAR.The dealer called and said they will have the hood painted as well.
Watch out for buffing wheels!

no I will be in Hollister on this bike with the tanks finished as needed
that is the reason I did it with the tanks on the bike instead of taking the extra 30 minutes to drain them and remove them to paint it ...... should of known better ........
