Default Worth it to upgrade rear caliper only?

My stock rear caliper has one piston that is hanging up, getting stuck out, so I have to get a new caliper. I have an 08 deluxe without abs. Since the rear brake doesn't really do much of the stopping power, is it worth it to upgrade it or should I just get the stock caliper?

Looks like I can spend upwards of $500 on just a caliper. I don't see it really being worth it to spend that much on a rear caliper that doesn't contribute that much to stopping compared to the front. But I've also never upgraded my brakes so I have nothing to compare it to. I'm not really interested in upgrading the front, to many other things to spend my money on right now.

It would be pretty easy to just clean up the rear caliper so it works properly. Prolly just some road grit build up on the piston.

Default Not worth it

The stock one is fine. Did you look into rebuilding the old one? You got it right, there is too many other things to spend money on!

upgrade the rear caliper only if you want bling, stock is fine otherwise..sticking piston is probably due to moisture in the brake fluid.

I haven't looked into rebuilding it. I did take the caliper off and I greased and exercised the one piston that gets stuck out. It seemed to help a little, but it is still getting hung up. What's involved with rebuilding it?

Not much involved, remove the piston (blow it out with an air hose), clean parts, check for corrosion, carefully remove corrosion with emery cloth, install new seal, reassemble, add new fluid, bleed system and ride.

Cool thanks, I'm going to go this route. Add one more project for winter. Just got woods 555 cams, lifters and adjustable pushrods to do also.

My advice is for a generic caliper rebuild, your procedure may be a bit different. Calipers are pretty simple and what needs to be done should be apparent even without a service manual.

OK, this is starting to sound a little fishy. What do you mean you "greased and exercised" the piston??? The only lubrication on caliper piston "O" rings comes from the brake fluid. You don't rub grease on it.
