ride to work? yay or nay

Riding to work for me is a chore. Single car width driveway, garage at the end of it with the bike in it. Means I have to move at least three cars of the four into the street to get the King out. So I have to plan the day before and have everyone cheat their car to one side of the drive so I can get by. Thats IF my head is clear enough to navigate the arseholes who routinely try to take you out on the Garden Sate Parkway, or Route 4, one of the WORST roads for traffic and idiots..In short, rarely.

Assess the risk. Only ride when you feel safe about it. . ride when your head is in it, ride a safe route, not a super slab where everything is high speed and cars cutting each other off. Think of it this way, an idiot in a cage , is he going to rear end a semi truck, or take out the bike next to it? Things too think about. I see idiots every day in my commute on route 283 in Pa. if I ride my scoot to work, I usually take the turnpike, less idiots out there, they don't want to pay the tolls. Also, it seems the State police are on the turnpike, not so much on 222-283, so the speed is somewhat enforced. No idiots in European cars trying to push through 80 MPH traffic at 130.

i have mixed feelings about it. some days i feel like riding, some days i don't. i only ride when i feel like it. but i take crap from guys who ride every day regardless of the weather, blah blah blah. but my thought on it is i'm usually half awake and dragging *** to work so why put miles on the bike that i'm not enjoying? it seems like these guys are typically new to riding, and have something to prove. curious what anyone elses thoughts are.
If you listen to that crap you get from the guys... why? F them, it's your life, not theirs.
My problem with riding to work was that it was a 40 Km drive... and a 140 km ride - ROFL! I always went the long way on the bike. 100km out of the way...
Mandurah to Rockingham via Midland (if you know Perth WA at all)

i WFH full time now, but when i use to ride to work i would only do it if its not raining. I dont like to ride in the rain, its not fun for me. I dont care what anyone thinks. I live in oregon where it rains alot so i usually dont ride at all between Nov-April because its always raining here. Yep i dont ride for 6 months straight out of every year...and i could care less. When i do ride, i am sure to wear my wifes panties and wear lipstick though just so everyone knows i am a man.

I don't commute much any more now that I am semi-retired, but when I did, the ride to and from work each day was the best part of the day; rain or shine, hot or cold. Being on the bike helps me to relax, decompress, meditate... whatever you want to call it.
The hard part about commuting was taking the exit for work, rather than just keeping on going and not stopping before I reached Palm Springs.

No. I ride for enjoyment. I go up on the mountain on my days off, and I love riding on the track.
I used to ride my motorcycle to work every day, even in the snow, but the risks just aren't worth it, so I ordered a new Porsche convertible to use for commuting. I put the top down when the weather is nice. It's not a motorcycle, but it makes me smile as much as a car can, I guess.

I ride the Road King into work (85 miles each way) when the weather is between 50 and 85 with 0-10% chance of rain (been rained on too many times because of the weather differential between north and south Jersey). The biggest problem I have is assessing the risk between an early morning departure (high risk deer, low risk traffic/texters) or later morning (low risk deer, high risk texters, traffic).
