Top 20+ reasons Harley sales are down
This came across my Facebook this morning, thought it too good to not share.
Harley Davidson is Closing many of its Plants Due to Declining Sales. Apparently, the Baby-Boomers all have motorcycles, and Generation X is only buying a very few, and the next generation, the Millennials, aren’t buying any at all.
A recent study was conducted to find out why?
Here are the reasons why Millennials don't ride motorcycles, and why sales are down:
1. Pants won't pull up far enough for them to straddle the seat.
2. Can't get their phone to their ear with a helmet on.
3. Can't use 2 hands to eat while driving.
4. They don't get a trophy and a recognition plaque just for buying one.
5. Don't have enough muscle to hold the bike up when stopped.
6 Might have a bug hit them in the face and then they would need emergency care.
7. Motorcycles don't have air conditioning.
8. They can't afford one because they spent 12 years in college trying to get a degree in Humanities, Social Studies or Gender Studies for which no jobs are available.
9. They are allergic to fresh air.
10. Their pajamas get caught on the exhaust pipes.
11. They might get their hands dirty checking the oil.
12. The handle bars have buttons and levers and cannot be controlled by touch-screen.
13. You have to shift manually and use something called a clutch.
14. It's too hard to take selfies while riding.
15. They don't come with training wheels like their bicycles did.
16. Motorcycles don't have power steering or power brakes.
17. Their nose ring interferes with the face shield.
18. They would have to use leg muscle to back up.
19. When they stop, a light breeze might blow exhaust in their face.
20 It could rain on them and expose them to non-soft water.
21. It might scare their therapy dog, and then the dog would need therapy.
22. Their man bun wont fit under a helmet.

....
23. Millennials aren't swayed by the image Harley markets and sells to attract new buyers.
24. Harley waited way too long to try to do anything to update their product line to attract the interest of Millennials.
25. Harley priced themselves out of the Millennial market with new offerings geared towards the millennial crowd. Imports are still much cheaper and with much higher levels of performance and quality control.
26. Most Millenials think the majority of Harley riders are middle aged posers desperately trying to recapture their youth. They can't be swayed by the marketing.

Man, I think Harley will be ok, as long as they "shift"their sights on less profit. for example, get used to making 10 Million profit instead of 100 million (rough numbers, don't know actually what their numbers are. I am sure a business/marketing dude would know). Why not narrow the line down to a few models that sell, and drop the rest in the interest in staying in business. The V rod has been mentioned, I am not sure what happened with that, but I know people who own V rods, and they love em. Its a small fan base, but why make a shitload of bikes when you aren't going to sell a shitload of bikes? Downsize to fit the market. keep the Sportster, maybe 3 models, an 883,(basic iron or XLH) two 1200's (one should be a Roadster, love that bike) Two of the new Softail/Dyna Infusion models, and keep the Softail heritage, Three FLH models keep the Street Glide/Bagger bike (one variation the customer can mod it to whatever they want with add ons)The Road king, and the Ultra Classic for those that have to have a classic Electra Glide.keep the CVO division open to 'Orders" don't build the custom bikes unless they are "ordered". Also have the CVO option available across all lines including Sportster. Rant over.
