Default Winter ride, CA -> AZ

I'm planning on doing a ride in December/January timeframe from Nor CA to Palm Springs (stay at in-laws), then over to Willcox, AZ (east of Tuscon) or thereabouts. What should I expect for the ride? Weather? etc.?

Phoenix is usually nice that time of year 60's to 70s' during the day. As you go south (higher elevation) it will get colder.

Man thats a good question..temps vary from the 90s to the 30s that time of year. It all depends. Wilcox is usually windy. I would have enough clothes to do the layered thing. You can always take em off but if you dont have warm stuff you will either buy it or be cold. There is some great riding in that area. You have to ride the Chiricuahua Mounumet and Bisbee if you have the time.

You should be OK sticking to I-10, but I-40 can be iffy till April. I've hit snowstorms or black ice as late as April 1st in the mountains on I-40 around Tehachapi. Once in AZ, and if you stay to the lower elevations it's generally comfortable, not too cold.

Just remember during those months it's cold at night in Arizona, 30-40 degrees. Daytime is usually beautiful, 65-75. Remember to stay in the desert. The mountains will be VERY COLD and lots of snow.

That's true, I hit a snow storm coming out of Flag on I-17 in Oct 01. Cars where spon out everywhere and here come three Harleys riding through.

Wife and I just did a 'lap' of Arizona at the end of April. Left SoCal in the mid to high 70's. Laughlin was almost 80* when we headed for Flagstaff, where it was 42*, 'turned right' to Sedona for the night. 42* when we left and 82* when we got to Tucson. Stayed in the 80's from Tucson to Yuma, then to Bullhead, and back to California. like everyone else said, stays warm in the desert/flat lands during the day, cool at night. Head north-east and you will freeze your butt off.....but that's what riding is all about. Good luck and good riding
