I think this is an incredible step forward for women in Saudi. I know we make light of it to a certain degree, but you need to realize at one time the ME was the center of knowledge and advancement we use many of these advances today. I want you to realize it is steps like this that can make profound and deep changes.
I say ride on ladies. I know since my wife started to ride she has become stronger and sure of herself.

The Spread of Islam in the golden age was a combination of military force and trade with others. The Spread of Islam is the reason many Roman and Greek works were saved from place like the Library of Alexandria and from the Fall of Rome. They had a simple rule when it came to conquering, they left the leaders and their culture in place, much like the Romans did, they did have a tax on non-believers (same thing Christians did in Jerusalem) and many things you use today like Algebra, navigation, and Arabic numbers come from this period. I dislike the fact that their cultures advancements died in the 1400s and has not reached the same levels as the Western World.

Here is an interesting article on the Golden Age. Every culture throughout history has a Golden Age of some sort, look at the Roman Empire or the Greeks and the advancement they brought and were lost. I wonder how much further we would be if the Goths and their associates, plus the failures of the Roman Empire would not have occurred and Roman had survived.
