So I'm wondering if IB has people on staff whose sole job is to create accounts and troll the forums just to keep up appearances that the forum is as active as it was five or six years ago.

Maybe it's a Wisconsin thing?

First, rain gear is designed to get wet. Now, there are two kinds of gear: rain resistant, and water proof. Moister will seep through rain resistant in a heavy rain, but is fine for a light rain. Water proof can be worn in the heaviest downpour and not have to worry about it seeping. The problem with water proof is that it is also air proof and they allow no air in; so they get pretty warm and uncomfortable. I have rain resistant textile gear I wear when I tour, and actual rain gear that is water proof that I put on only when it is coming down pretty good.

Second, there are products you can buy, for various types of materials, that will improve the material's ability to shed water. There is mink oil for leather and there is silicone for textiles. But, no amount of treatment will make rain resistant gear water proof.

Third, your question is a bit confusing. HD makes both rain resistant gear and water proof gear.

Finally, HD gear is no different than any other gear and does not require any special consideration. Wear the appropriate HD gear for the conditions you will be riding in and it will hold up just fine.

Hmmm. I always thought the idea of rain gear was to keep ME dry. I need to rethink this.

Maybe it should be worn inside out?

It's been raining and will continue all day here in CT. I'll do some experiments with how to keep rain gear dry and report back. Or maybe I'll just go to the lumber yard and get some wood to make shelves. Hard call.
