Unless you have a permit, blocking traffic and intersections in Alaska will get you a ticket and a fine.

Blocking an intersection sounds stupid. Just cause you have a large group of riders doesn't mean you can disobey traffic laws.

Is it illegal - yes. Have I been questioned of fined - no.
I have done it with and without Leos assistance.
If Leos are involved most of them like when a road guard takes the intersection, so they can proceed to the next one.
I have had several instances when road guarding, that a Leo just driving by will come and assist.
I have also seen an instance where the road guards had the intersection blocked and a car further back in the traffic rear ended another car. Whose fault is that - I say the driver of the car. They should have been paying attention. Once the intersection is secured it is the responsibility of each individual driver to see what the vehicle in front of it is doing.
But, if the intersection was not secure and a road guard pulled into the on coming traffic and was hit, then I would say it was the road guards fault

The Police around here cooperate with all of our large rides.
Nobody would even bring this up since the method is safe and efficient.
Heck, folks around here still pull off the road for funeral persessions.

This thread is mainly aimed at just your normal group of riders, say about 15 or 20 bikes. And one of these riders takes on the task of being Road Guard for the bunch. No calls made to LEO's .

RE: Road Guards and Law Enforcement
I go on a ride aboutonce a month with fourty to fifty bikes. We break up into groups of fifteen or twenty with a mile or so between usand use no road guards. We do tend to go thru four way stops as a group which I'm sure will bite us in the *** one of these days.
Good Luck

LEO here...No, it's not legal for anyone but a cop to shut down an intersection or block traffic like that. That said, I'd rather see that than have bikes trying like heck to squeeze into heavy traffic just to stay together. I've never messed with anyone for it.
