There's no mistaken notion about how much better my Shovelhead likes to run on a cool night.
If it makes you fell better about the care of your engine, you do it. First bottom-end work on that shovel was at 164,000 miles, so it can't be a bad thing.

That sure is the truth ... A cool evening is definitely a an asset to a great ride on the Ol' Shovel

Interesting setup thanks for posting. I may be adding some more oil cooling in the near future.

Out of curiosity anyone ever measure how much temperature lowering happens when the motor goes into one cylinder (parade) mode? The TC 110 goes into it often in stop in go traffic even in cooler weather.

Hey @Bluraven ,
I know this is an older thread, I am a new member so I have not caught up on the entire thing yet. I apologize if I break some etiquette by referencing a message that is 5+ years old. I am also considering put the same oil cooler you referenced in the opener of this thread on a 2009 Softail. Can you tell me how far it sticks inside the down tubes of the frame. My exhaust system has abnormally big O2 sensor that is barely an inch away from the frame. If it is all on the outside of the frame I am good, but if it sticks too far into the inside I am hosed. Thank you.

If plan "A" doesn't work for you due to location, you might consider relocating your oil filter.

oil relocation may drop the temp 5 degrees or so… but it’s real benefit is that it’s not in the dumb ****ing spot Harley put it originally

dk customs for oil cooling and relocation…

Yep, when I measured at the time of the modification the temp drop was no more than 5 degrees. Still, there was a "drop" and changing, (cleaning in my case), oil filters is a lot less messy now.

Oh yeah I agree…there is a cumulative benefit to keeping oil cooler…once oil hits a certain temperature it is done…but it doesn’t happen all at once…anything you can do to nudge that in the right direction is a huge benefit in my opinion

and changing the oil filter the first time was still work but it was a pleasure…huge difference

i had an issue with one of the lines I ran to mine…my fault and it was an easy fix… but if you run a relocation filter… inspect lines regularly
