2002 fxdx problems need info
Hey guys so I just bought a 2002 fxdx with 63xxx miles on it. I rode it for about a week with no issues now all the sudden it's shutting off every now and then when I'm ridding. I checked all the usuall issues and can't find anything that sticks out. I redid the wiring to the battery cause I heard sometimes the ground or the positive being either to loose or to tight could cause this but after doing that I went on a ride and it cut out on me twice. So any feed back or suggestions would help me out a lot thanks yall.

Did you actually replace the battery cables or just tighten them? I had an 02 Super Glide that did the same exact thing. It would idle just fine but when I dropped it in gear and started riding it would shut off. It turned out my battery cable had broken inside the insulation where I could not see it. At idle it would make contact and run just fine. Once I started riding and hit a bump or get some vibrations the cable would break contact inside the insulation and shut off. I put a new cable on and it ran like a champ. It took me a long time to figure that one out.

Intermittent electrical issues can be a nightmare. Sometimes, as mentioned above, you find it by pure luck. Not a Harley, but I had similar problems with a 76 Bonneville. It drove me nuts. Even paid a "specialist" in Brit bikes to fix it with no luck. Finally I just spent an afternoon with a meter and tested every damn connection on the bike. Turned out to be a bad ignition connection in the headlight bucket. One of the factory Molex connectors just wore out from years of vibration. It looked perfect and when I would connect and disconnect it, it worked. But only after I hooked up my meter and moved the connector around did I find it was breaking contact.
I wish you luck.

Ok, so it's a 2002, that is actually good news. Because the electrical functions on them are pretty basic. The ignition switch is the 1st one to check. I had the exact same issue with my 2000 and the Indy and I went crazy trying to find the issue.
Try this. The next time it quits, reach down and turn the ignition switch off and then back on and see if it fires back up. If it does, it's your Bank Angle Sensor or the wiring to it.
My bike actually had one wire broken going to the sensor. Found it one random night with the VOM trying to figure it out. Was supposed to have 5 volts and it had zero.
The Bank Angle Sensor it not an uncommon failure. Hopefully that is your issue because it's an easy fix and not too expensive.
Good luck.
