Talking I thought the last day of the month would be a good time to bike shop

So...... I stopped at a dealer I haven't been in for a long, long time. The last time I was there, they had very few bikes and din't seem to be interested in my business.

The place had changed hands and I haven't seen that many new bikes in a Indiana dealership EVER!

The salesman was very polite and professional and I asked him what the incentives were. He told me I might qualify for a HD $$1500 rebate and the dealer ship was throwing in another $1000.

I guess HD was picking people at random to give the rebate, and I wasn't one of them..... (figures) so, bye-bye to the $2500.......

We started crunching numbers anyway.....They started by giving me the "market selling price" WTF is THAT? The bike MSRP on the HD website is 26999.00, "market selling price" was 28633.00.

I started asking why their price was higher than the website price and I don't think I ever got an answer......

I wanted them to explain the extra $1634.00 and I was told shipping (which I understand) prep (which I understand) tax (that was already on a separate line) and doc fee (which was already on a separate line).

I came to the conclusion they were trying to ding me for over $1000 for prep which REALLY pissed me off.

They would not confirm it and stopped contacting me when I called them on it.

I thought Harley needed to sell more bikes?

Oh brother, the dealership is texting me now...... I'm going to ask for (2) HD rain suits, a headset for the intercom, (2) HD 1/2 helmets and 3K off of the quote....

I'll post the results................

The last day of January is a great time to shop for a new bike. The last day of May, not so much. Good luck.

Few things...
The rebate from MoCo is on certain but not all bikes if im not mistaken - thats why he said maybe
1000 off MSRP - ok, fair

BUT
Fright is about 400 and prep is about 400. Your dealer sounds like a bunch of clowns... Boy am I lucky I have a good honest dealer..

I thought the dealers got compensated by the factory for the prep fees.

There really is no particular month or day to shop for a vehicle to get a guarantee of a good deal. You either will find the right dealer at the right time or you won't. You will have better luck just randomly shopping around various dealers than trying to plan for specific dates.
