Default Newbie question: why Low Rider is called Low Rider?

As the topic title.

I have been searching this on the Internet with not much answers.

Why it is called Low Rider anyway? It's not really anything low right? As for 2018 model compared with Street Bob, it has bigger wheels, higher seat, higher ground clearance etc?

What exact feature on the the bike that defines itself as Low Rider and differs from other models?
thx.

It had the lowest seat height of the line-up at the time it was first built.

This even confused me more. So the name is not relevant to anything what the bike has today? Harley could have still called their lowest seat model as Low Rider, but they didn't even do that.

I believe up until recently it had the lowest seat height of the Dyna line. I can't say for sure now.
There far more experts on Dynas in here than me. Maybe one will chime in.

Okay grasshopper, back in the day when the mother ship was making a series of motorcycles called DynaGlides, there were three to five, models, depending on the year, FXD, FXDL, FXDWG, FXDX, FXDXT. The road clearance of these models varied from 4.6' to 5.9", the LowRider was at 4.6" road clearance and that's why it's a LowRider.

It's a carry over name from a very popular late 70's-80's model line, easily remembered and identified with. Today it's mostly a marketing ploy playing off that more than an actual description.
