Summer leather conditioning for my riding jacket
#11
I don't think it's a joke...but one thing about it that can be taken seriously is that when you lay in oil or grease, heat is your friend. What I like to do is wait for a nice hot day, hang the jacket, chaps, what have you, in the hot sun...then introduce the oil or grease to the leather...and leave it in the sun for a while...the oil or grease then goes right into the leather...
But I honestly don't think ya gotsta worry about mink oil, or any leather conditioner, flying off in the wind. Unless, of course, you put it on naugahyde...

Choosing leather conditioner is like choosing motor oil. So many opinions. The important thing is not letting the leather dry out. I do not go through all the trouble that the OP does but I do oil my jackets, chaps, vest, etc. once in a while. I have two jackets that are over 30 years old and still in very good condition. Funny many say do not use conditioner with silicone or petroleum products but the great Langlitz maker uses one with silicone and HD conditioner is from petroleum. When I was young and starting out I used vasoline (on my leather jacket) with positive results. I guess they all work but I have not tried K-Y jelly (on my leather jacket).
