am I the only guy that is seeing this correlation?
No,you're not the only one. I would not any motor at a higher than needed rpm. However, a motor shouldn't suffer a melt down at 80% of redline either.

Just spoke with the tech and he said that there was nothing that I could have done differently to prevent this from happening. This is a huge problem with the 117's and he's already seen his fair share of 117 failures and it doesn't seem to matter how aggressive or how passive these bikes are being ridden, he said if the motor is going to sump it's going to sump and that's it!

Get the last three numbers off the pump. I never said RPMs cause sumping. It's a case design and oil pump issue.High RPMs do create more heat and that's where the problem starts.

The tech said I had the latest oil pump design but I'll definitely get the numbers.

Agreed...
Absolutely ridiculous and basically foolhardy to run a Harley at that rpm. But.... There is no reason that it should FAIL because of it. Owner abuse really needs to be factored in to engine design. For realz.

If I'm a fool for running my $50,000 top of the line Harley Davidson at 4500 RPM then I guess I'm a fool! I am definarely a fool for spending so much money on a new Harley thinking it was built to ride hard. Maybe I'll trade this boat anchor in for a Honda.

It's karma for irritating everyone else in earshot of OP's 900 watt stereo. Downright rude behavior IMO.

With your 900 watt stereo blasting you wouldn't be able to hear any engine noise.
