M8 Sumping - Warning signs to listen for?
#11
I have been watching these threads on the M8 and what i see in common with sumping is that the folks that it is happening to like to ride way up on the RPM...4500+.
the only time I am at the above 4000rpm is when changing gears.....then i settle in between 2800/3500 rpm....
am I the only guy that is seeing this correlation?

Just spoke with the tech and he said that there was nothing that I could have done differently to prevent this from happening. This is a huge problem with the 117's and he's already seen his fair share of 117 failures and it doesn't seem to matter how aggressive or how passive these bikes are being ridden, he said if the motor is going to sump it's going to sump and that's it!

Absolutely ridiculous and basically foolhardy to run a Harley at that rpm. But.... There is no reason that it should FAIL because of it. Owner abuse really needs to be factored in to engine design. For realz.

If you don't think that level of abuse is....
that's not only foolish, it's ridiculous. But hey, it's YOUR bike. Do whatever you like to it. But please understand....
never mind.......

It's karma for irritating everyone else in earshot of OP's 900 watt stereo. Downright rude behavior IMO.
