The Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) has two separate circuits. The actuator valves for each circuit have o-rings that keep the brake fluid in each circuit separated. That’s why you still have rear brakes, but no ABS.

if you can pull that right side cover and post a photo too, would like to see what was done to bypass that ABS unit. I am assuming you are a different person than the photo above. (mines under the right side cover anyway)

also, hasn't your ABS light been on then? (unless I missed it above)

I haven’t checked this thread in a while. If anyone is still interested, I will try to post a pic.

The ABS light/indicater flashes (as it should) at idle etc. Once reaching the 20 mph (I believe) default speed, it stops flashing. I’ve compared it with other bikes with (functioning) ABS, and their bikes function exactly as mine does.

Hi RK4ME,
I have a 2012 FLHR Road King with only 2k original mile on it. Unfortunatly, yesterday as I was checking on the bike and the brake lever was impossible to press. I cannot afford a new ABS module for my 2012 Road King so I was wondering if you could send me a reputable link that can repair the modules. Looking all over the internet and cant even find a replaceable one. Your help would be greatly appreciated as I suspect the ABS module needs attention. Thank you.

Here's a link to find the part #: https://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche...artsfinder.htm

Reading the earlier responses (2018), it appears that you have to order the module from the dealer, but I don't know the full answer. Maybe you can find it from J&P Cycles, Dennis Kirk, etc. or somewhere on the net. Do you have an independent shop that could possibly order it for you? How do you know it's the ABS module that's the issue?

It's obvious the bike was not ridden much. Was it in good condition when you got it? Not to sound harsh, but if you can't afford to do maintenance on a motorcycle, maybe you should not have bought one.

Since the brake system is locked up, if you're convinced the module is bad, I would take the module off the bike and check it out. What's it look like inside? Can it be cleaned, soaked with a solvent, repaired? If it's a lost cause, so be it, but it might be worth trying.

I can't recall where that module rebuilding shop is.
If your brake system is "locked up", you should drain, disassemble and inspect the master cylinder and calipers for rust before focusing on the ABS module. I have done this on a few older bikes. Rust can form in the brake system when people don't change their bike's brake fluid.

The ABS Module is #40610-09, Price is $567.99. If they Charged you $400, that must have been Dealer Cost.

4 years ago when the thread was started that might've been the price. Around the time I sold my 2011 I priced a module out of curiosity and all I recall is HD changed their policy and no longer sells the HCU to the public, a dealer installed item only.
Another option is to by-pass the HCU with standard lines or add a fitting to connect the in and out lines on the cheap. That said my 2013 didn't come with ABS, I couldn't be happier.
