Garage Door Opener

Garage Door Opener
Got my Harley Dollars coupon for completing the MSF course a while back. Went on down to the Harley dealer and bought a garage door opener. Read the instructions and decided, Hmmmm, looks easy, I'll do it tonight. Pulled the outer fairing off the RG and cut the headlight wires and soldered in the sender unit. Before I put the scooter back together, I hooked up the receiver unit and tested it. Hmmmm, door doesn't open when I push the button on the receiver unit. I check the regular button and it works as advertised. I pull the hook up wires off the ceiling and do a local continuity check on the receiver. No shorting action like the regular button does to make the door motor work. The receiver unit has the pilot light on and it flashes when I push it to activate the door, but the door doesn't respond. I reset the receiver unit by unplugging it for about 20 seconds then holding the button in when I plug it back into the wall. Still no action. Am I missing something here or is my receiver unit messed up?

RE: Garage Door Opener
The receiver unit has a button on it so the door can be activiated by pushing the button. I can't get the door to activate by pushing the button or cycling the high/low beam.

I thought the button on the receiver unit was only for programming the receiver and trasmitter together. Are you sure the door is supposed to open when you push that little black button?

RE: Garage Door Opener
Ok, I read through the installation instructions again and I guess I am mistaking the instructions to operate the door with the original wall button instead of the H-D receiver button.
If that is what they mean, then this job is done. Thanks for the thought and input guys.

So let us know if this is the happy ending you anticipated. I remember my own confusion when I installed mine. The wiring/installation part made sense, it was the programming part that baffled me. Somehow I got lucky and it justworked. Hope you're up and going.
