Default Has anyone heard of this?

A guy posted on a Facebook riders page to be careful with ape handlebars that have a 90 degree bend at the bottom. He said the welds crack from the vibration. He said that's why he went with a rounded bottom. Has anyone heard of this? I have 14" Yaffe's. Thanks in advance for your responses.

I have run a number of the types you are referring to and never a problem. Sounds like the person had really crappy bars.

I can see Chinese knock-offs having shitty welds, but I'd bet you can trust the Yaffe's (assuming they're made here and not outsourced to China...)

Thanks guys. I'm thinking the same thing. Maybe he had some cheap bars from ebay.

Well, that's why those 90° "Z" bars were pretty much outlawed back in the late 70's early 80's. Welds were not passivized and were corroding under the chrome. You haven't lived until you've been jammin' down the road and the throttle side of your handle bar suddenly snaps off in your hand! Pucker factor is high.

Z bars are definitely cool but I don't trust them. That's why a lot of companies weld in those ugly looking gussets at every 90° point.

Do you really think Yaffe does everything in-house? Sure, just like OCC did.

I had the handle grip slip off of my pedal bike while I was pulling a wheelie, I have to imagine a similar outcome if your handlebars wee to inexplicably "break" whilst riding. I went right down, road rash on my hands...yeah, not good
