Ins. co's "claimed" you needed an additional 22000.00 in liability? How'ed they come up with that figure?
Found out later you are NOT obligated to pay it. Just another Ins. scam.

It only cost 20 or so bucks so I gladly paid it and went back to riding without a lid unless cold, or at night if riding far-fast.

I met my beautiful wife in 96' and got her riding. We went to Cuyahoga Falls, OH for a weekend trip.
I rode my Buell as it matched her GS 500 SuziQ starter bike better.
We both had full-face helmets.
100 degrees out that week so we rode without and loved it.
Remember how "weird" it looked seeing riders without lids.

To the whiney college boy D-bag. If you are ever in Denver at a bike night or event.
Feel FREE to approach me and demand money to pay for your increased expenses. (I'll be the one with NO HELMET)
We'll see how good your Obamacare ins. is?

To the rest of the Harley come lately, dentist, lawyer, doctor wannabe tough guy types insulting me. FU!

First, its $20,000.00. And you are required to have it. The police just can't use it as a primary reason for a traffic stop.

Yeah that. Never understood these negative comments and threats that surface every time the subject comes up. What else do they want to argue about, that we could care less about?

And, its 20K in first party med benefits, not 20K in liability.

The point here being that MI puts some degree of financial onus (for going without a helmet) on both the rider and the passenger.

Explain why that would be required, after all everyone is required to have health insurance?

I'm not positive but having $20K in "first party" insurance means you've got an insurer and policy which is first in line to pay against physical injuries sustained in a wreck. Your 'regular' medical or health insurance (including government funded benefits) wouldn't kick in until after the first $20K. It's the state's way of having a (helmetless) rider pay directly out of pocket for additional insurance coverage.

Anyone?

Asking the wrong guy there. I have no logical explanation on why its required. It makes about as much sense to me as raising my homeowner insurance rates because I like to pretend I can golf.

I would assume though its because we aren't "required" to have health insurance, even with obamacare I know a lot of people who chose to pay the penalty instead of getting insurance...and some people obviously feel that if you choose not to wear a helmet you should have some sort of financial support plan in place in the event you sustain a head injury. Somebody who feels that way managed to pass a law to support that, and that's why that 20K in med pay is required.

more insurance because you ride without a helmet ? what about boaters ? skaters? hell i might fall out of my deer stand. then what ? this entire helmet thing is stupid. i'm tired of the government telling what 's best for me. let those who ride decide !

Its a columbia and it faired pretty well considering. I need to send it back and have the one shoulder pad replaced and some stitching redone.

I currently don't wear one but lately have considered it after being cut off a few times recently.
