Default Crossbones Rear Fender

So last year I managed to find a stock rear fender for sale last year...I had wanted to chop it for a couple years but didn't want to ruin the only one I had. SOO I chopped 8" give or take out of the center of the fender and welded it up. All I could manage with the ECM setup and the body lines on the fender. Here is the finished result. I did have to have it repainted this winter because the first paint job didn't match.

This is the before and after on the rear fender.

SO now another year later I come across another custom crossbones, one i hadn't seen before. This is the rear fender I really wanted. Im a big fan of the ratty jap style customs.

Im about a day away from attempting this I can't help myself haha. Any thoughts on this? could the ECM still be under that seat? It looks like they did a chop and turn but in my experience you'd have to do a TON of work on that rear fender to still mount the ECM to it. Long story short anybody have experience with this setup? Anybody ever seen more pics of this bike? Thanks guys!

My oppinion for what's it's worth is leave it alone looks good how it is, it's how Harley's should have made the fender in the first place. As far as the other one goes I seem to recall that the magazine 'Hot Bike ' did the same thing some years ago, if you google something like chopped bobtail fenders and look on the images you'll see it, possibly leads to the article as well.
Think if you go that way though could make the bike harder to sell when the time comes.

I agree, i think they should done this from the factory too. It gives the bike much better proportions. Still tempted on chopping my factory fender! It wouldn't hurt the resale I'm not going to rechop the fender i did just destroy the original off the bike haha. Still not sure on the ECM under the rear of the seat. I have the pertinent picture from that hot bike article saved on my phone haha.

Oght, would you happen to have any pics of where you made the cuts on your fender? I would love to do mine like that. Your bike looks great. Thanks.

If it were me I'd leave it the way it is. That really short fender looks like ***.

I like the way it is now also. That upswept shorty fender doesn’t flow well at all.
