Okay, point taken. I’ll admit to being a bit paranoid about lifters as a failed tappet roller at 46,000 miles cost me the best running Evo motor I’ve ever owned.

1998 Evo's used the INA cam bearing that was prone to failure. It needs to be changed to a Torrington B-138 bearing. Change the lifters when you're at it....

The same thing happened to my "93 Ultra, at 49,925 miles. I wouldn't ride it until I pulled it apart. I went with the Harley reman . It took 2 weeks to get it back from the dealer.,,

I guess I got lucky. When I sold my '98 Road King a few years ago, it had 130,000 miles on the original lifters. Was still going strong. I agree with everyone's assessment though. Sounds like that's what it might be. Good luck.
