My advice is that you don't have to explain yourself to all the keyboard warriors upfront. You don't owe anyone who an explanation as to what you do or why you do it. Your bike, your wife, your life.

Agree... Your bike, your wife, your life.

I have limited time, so I bought the enclosed trailer & motel it.

If I can justify RV cost & RV site cost vs. motel.. (it's all about time), then I'll get the RV

I did spend the bank on an Ironhorse

In either case kick your grown kids out. Best decision you’ll ever make.
Hah yeah, we'll still live at the house mostly. RV long weekends and maybe a week trip here and there.

I am retiring completely in 4 years. My wife and I plan doing the rv thing and towing the roadking . We are planning on being gone for months at a time.
Can you imagine how nasty the bike would get with no protection??????
Enclosed is the only answer in my opinion.
I plan on getting as small as I can find......just big enough for the bike.

5x8 or 5 x10 should do just fine

Yep, it was $7,100.00 (wheel chock & tie straps included)

It's built to be my last trailer, I loose 1.2 mpg towing it, 40 mph crosswind doesn't touch it.

I totally agree with a small enclosed instead of an open trailer.
An enclosed trailer is SO much more versatile.
The clean factor is a big deal, like others said, your bike will look like shiet once
you get to your destination, and you have to spend time cleaning it, and
that time is totally wasted. Opening up an enclosed, and taking out your perfectly
clean bike all ready to ride is a big factor IMO.
My little enclosed trailer is very useful when I'm not using it for bikes.
Basically a movable storage shed. I keep a ton of stuff in it over the winter, freeing
up a lot of space in my packed garage.
I picked up my 6X10 enclosed on Craigslist for $1500, money well spent.

been doing just that since 2003. Get the enclosed trailer it is well worth the extra money. It will safeguard the bike while you are traveling, keeping all the debris off the bike. It will also keep wondering eyes from knowing whats in the trailer (unless you cover it with motorcycle decals). It also doubles as a garage while at the campground. Keeps all the kiddies away and makes it so that some dumb *** are not sitting on it when you come back to camp from a walk. etc. It also gives you a secure sport to store the bike when camping but away from the camper itself. Finally, if you need it, it will provide a secure place to store the bike at home. DO NOT skimp on tie downs and wheel chocks/biker bar. The las thing you want to find is the bike on its side at your destination. Like I said, been traveling with an RV and the bikes in a trailer since 2003. Feel free to private message me if you have any questions.

Enclosed all the way. I’ve been pulling trailers for 40 years and have seen what happens when the road gets slimy or dirty. Anything in an open trailer gets treated far worse than the vehicle doing the towing. Look at the front of any trailer that’s been used much and you’ll see the dings and paint damage. I’m not ever doing that to my beautiful bike.

Tandems tow better with 4 tires bearing the weight and wear. They sway less too. Brakes are essential on any trailer I tow, period. And then there’s the whole security benefit. No eye candy to tempt a criminal. Lockable. You can even install a remote camera which links to your phone and thereby keep an occasional eye on your bike while towing.
