Default Running open filter in heavy rain.

I was thinking about running an open air cleaner like in the picture attached. Anyone have any trouble running in the rain? I ride in all kinds of weather and was worried about heavy rain and the open filter.

I really don't think you'll have any problems. Rain doesn't seem to effect the K&N filters or cause any intake problemsand I've ridden in some pretty heavy rain for hours. Now the PCIII ecm connector is another story, but I fixed that.

Good Luck

I have been running with an open filter for over a year now. Unfortunately, I have had the pleasure of riding in rain almost every weekend I go on a ride (at least it seems like it). The bike has always ran fine whether it be a sprinkle or a downpour. As a matter of fact, the first weekend I put the open filter on the bike I hit a downpour with hail and the bike never sputtered for the entire 60 miles of hell that I went through.

A freind that rides with us put his little rain coat on his filter. A little mess bag that let air in and water out.

I have had a car sputter before in the past, nothing to bad.
On my bike I haven't had to any problems but have not been caught in a big rain storm yet, just light rain.

I've had the open air filter on a carbed bike (03 Lowrider - Arlen Ness BS), and on my 05 FI Glide (SE A/C). While it doesn't rain a whole lot here in Arizona, when it rains it's torrential, and the few times I've been caught riding in the rain I haven't had a problem with either bike. You should be fine.

Thanks, open filter it will be, I'm hoping it will allow more air flow and I can take that football lookin' thing off of the carb.

Bagger,
I had never heard of an open air filter, though I have often wondered why an air filter needs to be covered. I have an 06 Deluxe and I am not crazy about that football cover. But what determines whether doing away with the cover is preferential? I did modify the bike somewhat with the VH Longshots. Thanks.
